Now, don’t pinch your nose, punch in a number on phone if you spot garbage on roads. Residents of Ward 66 can call a helpline if they spot garbage strewn in their ward and Safai Ambulance Service would come to remove it.

Jaipur Deputy mayor Bhardwaj said three battery-operated safai ambulances would function from 11 am to 5 pm and collect garbage from the roadside and markets. The helpline number for this service, 0141-6556553, will be painted on these vehicles.

On calling the number, the vehicle would come and remove the garbage, said the councillor of ward 66, Vikas Kothari, who initiated the project.

The service will have a fleet of small vehicles to manoeuvre through the bylanes, which are inaccessible to dumpsters. Jaipur Municipal Corporation launched Safai Ambulance Service as a pilot project at the ward in Adarsh Nagar assembly constituency on Thursday. It will be extended all other wards in the city if the pilot project succeeds.

In the walled city of Jaipur, these small vehicles were part of the garbage collection vehicles. Now they were being taken outside the walled city as part of the pilot project, said Parnami.
