Nowadays, you can see students decorating the boundary walls of government buildings with their paintings in Kota.
The activity, taken up under the district administration’s ‘Recreating Kota’ campaign, is part of the ‘Smart City Kota’ project.
“A total of 225 walls of the government buildings in Kota have been selected on which students and artists will draw beautiful paintings under the month-long Street Art Festival,” said Rohit Gupta, the Kota district collector. He said the art festival was aimed at cleaning and beautifying the city.
At present, the boundary walls of horticulture department and Kota Central Jail are being decorated with the colourful paintings. While the Kota Municipal Corporation (KMC) cleaned the walls, the Kota Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) arranged paint, brush and other necessary things for the students to paint their imagination on the walls.
Akshita, a student, said that her group painted rainbow theme on the wall. “Every painting conveys some kind of message,” she added. Fatima, another student, said that paintings of her group portrayed blood donation, women freedom, sanitation, peace and trees.
Gupta, the district collector, said, “These paintings will make beautiful and colorful image of Kota in the minds of visitors (to Kota).” He said best art work on the walls will be felicitated after completion of first leg of the month-long art festival. “In second leg of the festival, beautification of public places and crossroads in the city will be done,” he added.
