To develop sports, govt to spend 45cr

Around Rs. 45 crore will be spent through the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA) for development of sports infrastructure during five years.

The money will be spent on the outdoor and indoor grounds in the state, said sports minister Gajendra Singh Khivsar.

The minister gave this information at a meeting with sports secretary, sports council secretary and sports persons on Thursday. He said various international-level sports academies will be started soon in the state.

“We will try to produce quality players through these academies,” said Khivsar, adding that the state government is determined for this.

Khivsar said a new outdoor Olympic-size swimming pool will be built. The pool will have facilities for diving also. “After setting up international level facilities at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, we will run them on pay- and- play basis. Top class equipment will be installed there,” said the minister.

A former national squash champion, Khivsar said an indoor hall would be made for over 50 panchayat samitis.

Apart from Khivsar, Rajasthan State Sports Council chairman JC Mohanti and secretary Brijendra Singh Parmar were also present on the occasion.
