Tonk finally gets new rly line

Tonk residents’ long pending demand for railway line has finally been fulfilled in the railway budget 2015-16. General manager of north western railway Anil Singhal said a new railway line from Ajmer to Sawai Madhopur via Nasirabad and Tonk had been sanctioned in the railway budget.

General manager of north western railway Anil Singhal said a new railway line from Ajmer to Sawai Madhopur via Nasirabad and Tonk had been sanctioned in the railway budget. The construction of 165km long railway line will cost around Rs. 873 crore.

Singhal said NWR had received Rs. 874.6 crore in 201516 for the construction of new railway line, gauge conversion and doubling.

He said Rs. 1,423 crore had been sanctioned for electrification of 1,573 km long route including Hissar-Bhantinda-SuratgarhBhildi, Phalodi-Jaisalmer and Ajmer-Udaipur. Electrification of Rewari-Jaipur-Palanpur and Rewari-Hissar has already been sanctioned.

He said focus of this year’s budget had been resources mobilisation, infrastructure and passengers amenities. Outlay for 2015- 16 for NWR is Rs. 96 crore which is Rs. 126.86 crore more than last year budget amount of Rs. 42.18 crore. Out of this, Rs. 3 crore would be spent on Durgapura railway station for raising shelter and drinking water. The remaining amount would be spent on various railway stations for repairing platform, upgradation of waiting room, sitting arrangements etc.

In order to solve the traffic issue, around 19 railway over bridges and 30 under bridges have been sanctioned at a budget of Rs. 800 crore in NWR, he said.

He said Rs. 88.50 crore had been sanctioned to NWR to modernise the workshops. Dieselelectric multiple unit (DEMU) shed on Merta Road would be constructed at the cost of Rs. 17.7 crore, washing line for 24 coach in Sriganganagar would be built at the cost of Rs. 6.25 crore and 50 high horse power (HHP) locos housing on Abu Road diesel shed at cost of Rs. 24.6 crore.
