A teenager, Harish Nayak (19), was arrested by the police on Saturday afternoon in connection with the murder and sexual assault of a 13-year-old neighbour on Friday night.

A minor boy from Pulla area of Udaipur has also been detained in this connection for aiding Nayak in the crime.

During interrogation, both revealed that they had performed unnatural sex with the deceased and then killed him by crushing his face with a stone with the intention to cover up the crime, station house officer of Amabamata police station Jitendra Anchaliya said.

The SHO added that during initial interrogation, both Harish (19) and the minor accepted their crime. The incident came to light on Saturday morning when the deceased’s father (35) was informed by one of his neighbours that the body of his son was found lying dead at Pulla Nalla area.

On getting information, the Ambamata police rushed to the scene and found the body. Later, it was sent to the mortuary for post-mortem. A murder charge has been registered and investigation has started, the SHO said.

During interrogation, the police came to know that the deceased was a student of Class 4. On Friday evening, he left the house at 8.30pm saying that he was going out to play with friends, but did not return.

Nayak has been booked under sections 302, 377, 201 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
