A video of a mob assaulting a police officer outside his station in Rajasthan has gone viral on the social media.

The victim was identified as Ishwar Singh, assistant sub-inspector at the Behror police station in Alwar. The attack allegedly occurred after a group of people came from Dahmi village over a land dispute.

“The Behror police had received information on May 21 about a land dispute in the village. A team of officers was sent to the spot, but one of the parties involved – Shivkumar Meghwal – did not desire police involvement,” said Parmal Singh, circle officer, Behror police station.

Meghwal is a constable with the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary in New Delhi.

“After our team returned from the spot, several people arrived at the police station around 10.30 pm and started shouting slogans. When Singh tried to mediate, he was beaten up,” said Singh.

Police arrested eight people, including three women, for assaulting the police officer. They were later granted bail. The accused have filed a counter-FIR against the police.

“We are investigating the matter,” said Singh.
