A 34-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his wife and nephew in Barkat Nagar of the state capital on Monday night. Police have arrested both the accused.
According to police, the victim, identified as Rakesh Saini, 34, a resident of Barkat Nagar, was found dead in his bedroom on Tuesday morning. His throat was slit with a sharp-edged weapon, probably a paper cutter which the police found near the body.
Police investigations led to suspicion on Saini’s wife Krishna Saini, 25, and the victim’s nephew (sister’s son) Pawan Kumar, 23 who lived with the family, said deputy commissioner of police (East) Kunwar Rashtradeep Singh.
He said on the basis of evidence collected from the crime spot and interrogation of the accused, the crime was proved and the duo arrested.
Police investigations also found that Pawan, who works at a printing press in Phulera area had developed an illicit relationship with Krishna as the former lived in the same house. When Rakesh got to know about the relation, he reprimanded Pawan and asked him to leave the house which triggered some tension in the family, said Bajaj Nagar police station in-charge Mahendra Gupta.
However, both Krishna and Pawan remained in touch over phone. On Monday night she called Pawan both perpetrated the crime, the officer added.
Police said it is suspected that Rakesh may have consumed excessive liquor due to which it was easier for the accused to commit the crime.
Saini’s brothers, uncle and other family members, who also live in the house, said they did not hear any sound.
