The Mahila Panch Sarpanch Sangthan of Rajasthan has opposed the newly introduced education qualification criteria for contesting panchayat elections. The sangthan said in a press statement the “drastic measure” comes in effect only days prior to the announcement for the panchayat elections.
Introducing a disqualification measure of this nature goes against the basic principles enshrined in the Constitution. It also violates fundamental rights guaranteed to every citizen of this country, the association said.
In a democratic country, introducing selective disqualification measures such as two child norm and minimum education requirement is hindering inclusive participation of all in grassroots development, it said.
