They had travelled hundreds of miles to Jaipur to hear Prime Minister Narendra Modi but felt cheated when they discovered that the charismatic leader was never a part of the function they had come to attend to celebrate the first anniversary of the Vasundhara Raje government on Saturday.
A large number of people who had come to Jaipur from Bharatpur and Churu districts said that BJP leaders had deceived them into believing that the Prime Minister would be addressing a function in Jaipur’s Janpath. “I came here to hear Modi, but now I come to know that he is not coming here. I have been brought from Bharatpur,” said Siya Singh, one of the attendees from Bharatpur.
Singh was not alone who felt cheated. “We have been told that Modi is coming and we all came to hear him,” said Hawa Singh from Churu. “We were not interested to hear chief minister Vasundhara Raje.” Dhuli Chand, who had come from Rajgarh said, “I have been brought here saying that PM Narendra Modi will come and address the meeting.” “But Modi is not coming, so I am going back.”
A BJP spokesperson, however, denied that people were misled.
“It was not mentioned anywhere in the anniversary programme that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will come to the function,” BJP spokesperson Kailash Nath Bhatt said, adding “if some people are saying they only came to hear Modi, then they are getting depressed on seeing such huge crowds and success of the programme.”
