Bickering in the state Congress is set to further widen as defying preaching of 'unity' by party high command, former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh will meet party workers of the district and visit the local grain market onOctober 21.

"Captain Amarinder Singh will visit the residence of party worker Manmohan Singh Bajwa, where about 200 party workers will meet him to express their grievances apart from discussing the current political situation related to the party,"local MLA and close confidante of Captain, Rana Gurjit Singh told HT.

After meeting the party workers, Captain would visit the local grain market to take stock of the paddy procurement process and listen to the problems being faced by farmers, Rana added.

Asked whether it would not amount to 'indiscipline' by former chief minister to meet party workers, without even informing the state Congress chief Partap Bajwa, Rana said, "If a senior Congress leader meets his party workers, how could it be termed as indiscipline? "

To a further query, whether Bajwa was invited by him to attend the meeting, he said, "No, Bajwa is not invited, as party workers wanted to meet Maharaja sahib only and finally I had to bow down to their pressure."

"Party workers are eager to meet Captain Amarinder Singh. They rue that no state-level party leader gave any heed to their grievances after change of guard in the state leadership,"he added.

However, getting cautioned, Rana clarified that Captain would not address any rally, rather indulge in informal chat with the party workers. "Had it been a rally, I would have arranged gathering of more than 10,000 part workers; but it is simply a party meeting,"he added.

Sources close to Rana said the local MLA has arranged the Captain's meeting by adopting 'tit for tat"policy, as a couple of months back Bajwa visited a party leader in his constituency, but did not inform him (Rana) about his meeting.

Sources added that a day after visiting Kapurthala, Captain would visit Attari assembly segment in Amritsar and meet party workers in the residence of Congress leader Tarsem Singh.

In his recent visit to Jalandhar, Bajwa expressed his unawareness about Captain Amarinder Singh's proposed visit to Kapurthala.

"I have not been informed about any meeting. I will decide whether to attend the meeting or not, if I get an invitation,"Bajwa had said when asked, whether he would attend the meeting called by Rana Gurjit Singh.

Asked whether holding meeting of party workers by Captain, without taking him (Bajwa) into confidence amounts to indiscipline, the state Congress chief preferred to keep mum.
