Congress councillors staged a protest in front of mayor Sunil Jyoti's office on Thursday after his failure to clarify expenses on patch works and roads during his tenure.

Leader of opposition in the municipal corporation and Congress councillor Jagdish Raj along with district Congress president (urban) Rajinder Beri and other party councillors alleged that they had submitted a memorandum to seek clarification regarding Rs 13crore spent on patch works and `36 crore on construction of roads on March 31, but the mayor was yet to provide explanation.

"I have called upon the mayor on Wednesday, but he didn't reply in a satisfactory manner, stating that he was busy," said Raj.

He added that he had called him on Thursday morning, but he again clarified. "If he will not provide details by Saturday morning, we will be forced to intensify agitation," added Raj.
