North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) while expressing its concern over displacing Sikh farmers from Gujarat urged all Punjab MPs to create political pressure on chief minister Narendra Modi to withdraw their SLP from the Supreme Court against the Gujarat High Court order.

NAPA spokesman Satnam Singh Chahal said, "If the Gujarat government fails to withdraw SLP from the apex court before hearing date of August 27 and the court accepts it, then the affected farmers of Gujarat will not forgive the politicians of Punjab for not supporting them."

He added that the BJP government in Gujarat can also amend the Bombay Tenancy and Lands Act, 1948, and delete the sections being imposed on the Sikhs.

The NAPA also urged Punjab politicians not to politicise the issue. "If Modi continues pursuing his anti-Sikh policies then Sikhs based in India and abroad should oppose him and mar his party's prospect in the coming elections," said Satnam.
