Day before results, candidates relax, visit religious places

A day before the parliamentary election results are to be declared, four of the main contenders from the Jalandhar constituency spent their time relaxing, meeting party workers and also visiting religious places.

After a hectic canvassing schedule amid scorching heat days ago, Chaudhary Santokh Singh of the Congress, SAD-BJP's Pawan Kumar Tinu, Jyoti Mann of the Aam Aadmi Pary (AAP) and BSP contender Sukhwinder Singh Kotli were apparently relaxed and confidently waiting for the poll outcome on Friday.

While Chaudhary Santokh Singh appeared calm and spent his day with his family members, Pawan Kumar Tinu started his day with prayers and toured a dera for his success in the electoral battle.

"I started my day by visiting Dera Baba Murad Shah in Nakodar to seek blessings. After this, I went to attend a relative's wedding," Tinu said, adding that he was relaxing during the day.

"Party workers are visiting me since morning with their predictions. It has been part of my life for the past 20 years," he said.

AAP candidate Jyoti Mann, who gave sleepless nights to her rivals, visited two religious places in Amritsar — Valmiki Teerath and Baba Jeevan Darbar.

"It is important to thank God at every step," she said.On the other hand, BSP candidate Sukhwinder Singh Kotli was seen giving instructions to the party's counting agents since morning."I am going from one place to another since morning. I went to Jalandhar, Shahkot, Nakodar and Phillaur holding party meetings asking our polling agents to reach the counting centres on time and keep a watch on results. Instead of religious places, I am reaching out to people who voted for us and thank them."
