Jalandhar doc realises dream of making it to elite service

It was her father’s dream to see the prefix doctor with her name, but she wanted to see the suffix IAS with it.

And with the results of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil services exam out, both dreams seem to have been realised. The 26-year-old doctor from Jalandhar, Ruhee Dugg, has scored rank 176 in her second attempt.

Currently working at Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women, Khanpur Kalan, Sonepat, Ruhee did her MBBS from Government Medical College, Faridkot.

Ruhee said it was a proud moment for her. “I owe a lot to my family and friends who always supported me,” she said, adding, “Both my father’s and my dreams have been realised as now I will use doctor before my name and IAS after it.”

She had opted for zoology as optional subject.

In her first attempt, she had opted for public administration and medical sciences. “This time, as we had to choose only one subject, I was confident about zoology and opted for it,” said Ruhee, who competed in the SC category.

Her father, Harmesh Lal, executive engineer in Punjab irrigation department posted at Amritsar, said it was a proud moment for the family.

Her success mantra is her dedication to her goal and hard and smart work. Eyeing the IAS, she aspires to improve heath aspects.
