Even as the railway ministry has repeatedly announced to make the city railway station a model station, the promises seem to be hollow.

The station still lacks basic amenities, including proper seating arrangement, a canteen and potable water.

Though it is one of the busiest junctions in the state, out of the total five ticket counters, two are permanently closed. Reason: staff crunch. When there is severe crunch, even the third counter is shut.

Most of passengers can usually be found sitting on the floor and stairs of platforms due to inadequate availability of benches. The overcrowded platforms with no security check can prove dangerous.

Foul smell envelops the station as filthy rail tracks are rarely washed.

As the station canteen was closed a few years ago, passengers depend upon roadside vendors, who usually fleece them.

It is upsetting to see that one of the busiest railway stations of the state lacks proper seating arrangement. I have to keep standing for several hours if a train is late as the only option available is the dirty floor.

I have been visiting the station for the past 25 years and nothing has changed. Commuters are unhappy with the services. The government has failed to provide basic facilities at one of the most important spots of the city.

Though lack of basic services keeps haunting passengers, women have other issues that need to be addressed. At ticket counters there is no separate queue for women.
