Ex-MLA from Bholath, Sukhpal Singh Khaira has hit back at Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for making statements for stricter laws to check crime against women in the country.
In a release issued today, Khaira said Badal has failed to check murder and rape cases against minor girls in Punjab.
He said there is complete lawlessness in state with incidents of murder, rape, kidnapping etc. being reported everyday adding that sensational cases of Faridkot minor abduction, killing of an ASI in Amritsar and brutal beating of Ludhian AIG SS Mand are indicators of gross "jungle raj' in the state.
A 13-year-old school girl of Hasanpur village in Gurdaspur was found murdered after rape on December 5th, similarly a teenaged poor girl was raped in Bharian village of Ferozpur on December 17th and Kamaljit Kaur a 24-year-old woman of Chaggran village in Hoshiarpur was shot at yesterday. Therefore, Congress urges the chief minister to wake up to atrocities being committed against women in Punjab, before pointing fingers at the national scenario, the release said.
The releases also added that crime against women in Punjab is on the rise and glaring cases of rape and murder of young girls has been lost in the din, mele and mayhem let loose by Akali 'goondas'. Even the media has failed to focus on the two very heinous incidents of rape and murder of two minor girls in Gurdaspur and Ferozepur.
It further said that there is no point in making public statements calling for stringent laws and fast track courts, when our girls and women are being attacked each day in Punjab.
Congress demands immediate judicial probe into the rape and murder cases of Gurdaspur and Ferozpur, so that the guilty be brought to book.
Congress also urges the CM to depoliticise the police force, cancel the recent redemarcation of police stations and police sub-divisions in accordance with assembly segments.
