Markfed notices for criminal proceedings to family of SAD leader

The state procurement agency, Markfed, has served notices for initiating criminal proceedings against the family members of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former municipal committee president Tirath Ram Sandhu if they fail to deposit the agency's dues amounting to crores.

Agency district manager said during the customary milling season 2013-2014, 1,79,225 bags of paddy were stored in Rama Krishna Rice and general mills owned by Krishna Devi, Sandhu's wife; Dinesh Kumar, his son and Upneet Kaur, his daughter-in-law. He said the mill did not deliver rice as per the agreement.

The manager said the mill was instructed to deposit `2,36,26,458; the cost of 12061.70 quintals of paddy. He said the mill partners were trying to disown the stock and added if the mill did not reply to these notices by the stipulated date, criminal proceedings would be initiated against the partners.
The Punjab warehousing corporation had also attached the property of Tirath Ram Sandhu and his son for failing to deposit rice according to the agreement last year
