The Jalandhar police (rural) have come up with an innovative way to set up help desks which will be monitored through network of CCTV cameras for an effective addressal of complaints of people at police stations.
The first such help desk was inaugurated by Jalandhar zonal inspector general of police at the Nakodar Sadar police station on Thursday. The senior police officials including a senior superintendent of police (SSP) and two superintendents of police (SPs) will closely monitor these complaints.
After submitting complaints at such help desk, the complainants need not to go to the station house officer or the munshi.
The rural police have trained 66 staff members for implementing this. These staff members will be deputed at the police stations this week. These help desks will be opened at 15 police stations and four trained staff will work in each desk for 12 hours.
The desks will work from 8 am to 10 pm and a daily progress report will be submitted to the SSP. Six police personnel, including women, will work on every desk. The woman staff will work till sunset at desks.
Jalandhar zone IG Nirmal Singh Dhillon said the project would be started in other areas such as Ludhiana rural, Jagraon, Fatehgarh Sahib, Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala.
Dhillon said the help desk project will be introduced in Jalandhar police zone shortly.
The police have received 500 complaints of which 488 were disposed of during the trial period. The IG further said every complaint would be investigated thoroughly and complainants need not to go to senior officials as their complaints will be addressed at the help desks.
