Olympian Pargat Singh elected working president of Surjit Hockey Society

Two-time Olympian and former skipper of Indian hockey team Pargat Singh, MLA from Jalandhar Cantonment, LR Nayyar and SDM Jalandhar Iqbal Singh Sandhu were on Saturday elected unopposed as working president , secretary and senior vice-president of the Surjit Hockey Society, respectively.


A meeting of the executive board of the society was held in the presence of the deputy commissioner Varun Roojam, who is also ex-officio president of the society by virtue of his post.

The society came into existence in 1984 with a pledge to keep the name of Sardar Surjit Singh Randhawa, Olympian, alive, who lost his life in a fatal car accident near Jalandhar on January 7, 1984.

Since 1984, the society has been organising Surjit Hockey tournament, a category one tournament of the country, every year here.

It was unanimously decided by all members to authorise the newly elected Working President Pargat Singh and secretary LR Nayyar to nominate other members of their team.
