With the police booking 14 Bhargo Camp area residents for assaulting SHO Dharamvir Singh on April 20, Jalandhar MP Mohinder Singh Kaypee reportedly approached deputy commissioner of police Sarabjit Singh and requested him to drop the case.
However, the police has resisted the pressure for now and has decided to arrest the accused.
The SHO was beaten up in uniform, when he went to meet a woman resident, whom the locals have alleged was his paramour.
However, the police have maintained that the locals had no business taking the law in their own hands by thrashing the SHO and those guilty would be punished. They have also argued that if residents can be allowed to thrash an SHO and that too in uniform, how will the police maintain law and order?
ACP Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu said one of the 14 accused Chander Kumar has been arrested, while the remaining are reported to be absconding.
