Taking serious note of a complaint filed by Sultanpur Lodhi MLA Navtej Singh Cheema on the functioning of a senior Kapurthala police officer, Punjab assembly speaker Charanjeet Singh Atwal has summoned SP (headquarters) Kulwant Singh to clarify his position vis-à-vis the complaint.

The speaker's notice was received at the SSP office and the officer has summoned to appear before him on Tuesday, sources said.

Talking to HT, Cheema said, “The SP does not even bother to take my calls. This attitude hurts and is unbecoming of a public servant. This arrogant behavior prompted me to approach the speaker.”

“You can easily imagine the condition of a common man, if I, the elected representative of the constituency, am treated like this,” he added.
The MLA has also filed another complaint with the election commission, demanding the transfer of the SP, alleging that the officer had been canvassing for SAD candidates for the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections.

“This officer has been stationed here for more than five years. He has been working for the SAD than even some of the party members. He is supposed to have no political affiliation. Free and fair elections will not happen in the disttict as long as he holds the post.”

SP Kulwant Singh was not available for comments.
