Senior Congress leader and former Bholath MLA Sukhpal Khaira has sought public apology from Union minister of state for social justice Balram Nayak for sharing the dais with convicted Bholath MLA Bibi Jagir Kaur during a public function organised by Banjara community at Bholath on Sunday.
Nayak visited Bholath to participate in a public function and shared the dais with Bibi Jagir Kaur, who had been bestowed with the honour of 'mother of Banjara community', and he (minister) also accepted a plaque in the presence of hundreds of people.
"Bibi Jagir Kaur has been convicted by a special court of CBI for abduction, kidnapping and forceful abortion of foetus and is currently on bail. The participation of the Congress minister with a convict has sent a negative signal to the society in general and youth in particular," said Khaira in an address to the mediapersons here on Monday.
"By allowing a convict to garland him and accept honours from a criminal, the Union minister has done gross disservice to morality in politics. Persons holding responsible public offices are expected to lead by example and not stoop to such levels of politicking," Khaira added.
"This blatant and brazen wrongful act of the minister amounts to promoting criminality in politics. It is also highly immoral for Bibi Jagir Kaur to garland and honour a Union Congress minister, while her party leaves no stone unturned in severely criticising the UPA government daily," Khaira further added.
"We strongly condemn the immoral, unethical and cowardly act of the Union minister and demand immediate public apology. In case the minister fails to tender a public apology, he would be 'gheraoed' and greeted with black flags the next time he visits Punjab," Khaira warned.
