Seeking upgrading and expansion of Jammu airport, Jitendra Singh, minister of state in Prime Minister's Office (PMO), on Tuesday met civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusapati to raise the matter.

The union minister of state also gave Pusapati a letter mentioning that more than 17 acres was acquired for the project since 2013 and giving the army alternative land at Sunjhwan had overcome the earlier hitch.

Drawing attention to the pilgrim rush to the Vaishno Devi shrine, Jitendra Singh said more than 15 flights landed and took off from Jammu every day, and unless the airport was upgraded, the facility would get choked.

He requested the civil aviation minister to consider the feasibility of night landing at Jammu, besides early-morning outgoing flights. "Since now we have more air travellers, the flights ought to be rescheduled to reach Delhi and other destinations early morning and get back the same evening," he added.
