After getting favourable assurances from abducted school headmaster Ranjit Duley’s family, the Maoist-backed People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) said on Monday that he would be let off soon.

In accordance  with the wishes of the PCAPA, the headmaster’s younger son, Raunak, addressed a press conference on Monday and condemned alleged police atrocities in the Sarenga area of Bengal’s Bankura district.

Raunak also submitted a petition to the Sarenga police station, seeking the release of jailed PCAPA supporters, and issued an open letter declaring that his father would snap all ties with the Communist Party of India-Marxist. Duley is a local leader of the party.

He might be let off late on Monday night so that he could reach home early Tuesday, PCAPA sources said.

The PCAPA’s armed wing, Sidhu Kanho Gana Militia, abducted Duley outside his school in Sarenga on Friday.

Militia chief Sidhu Soren said that after assessing the developments, Duley’s  release would be decided at a meeting on Monday night.

After talking to Duley’s elder son, Deepak, on Monday, Soren said he was being treated well and was safe.
