Merely eight days after the father of a first-year student lodged a police complaint against the vice-chancellor of Visva Bharati University for asking him to hush up a sexual assault complaint on his daughter, a third-year student of the same fine arts section complained to the police against her departmental head for threatening her for taking part in an agitation showing solidarity with the victim.
On Monday afternoon, a third-year student of Kala-Bhavan ceramic department, filed a complaint with the local police alleging the head of the department, professor Goutam Das, for mentally harassing her and outraging her modesty.
“I took part in protest movement against the sexual harassment of our fellow student… When one of the three accused... try to withdraw the movement and passed bad comments, I reported the matter to Goutam Das but he doesn’t take any action,” wrote the student in her two-page handwritten note.
“Professor Goutam Das, HoD Ceramic of Kala-Bhavan unlawfully locked me in his chamber at Kala-Bhavan on 14 September 2014 around 12 noon to 12:30 pm and he threaten me with dire consequences,” she alleged.
The student was admitted to Santiniketan Pearson Memorial Hospital on Sunday for mental trauma. “I don’t want to comment on this baseless allegation,” Das told HT.
