He may not be a front-runner in the Barasat Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal where the main contest is between the Trinamool Congress and Forward Bloc, but BJP candidate Bratin Sengupta is optimistic that the public relations agency that will take his election message across will do wonders for him.
Sengupta, a former Marxist says that the PR agency will not only handle his road shows and campaign, but would also decide the debatable topics, groom him while also preparing attractive booklet and merchandising material.
“I think I can reach more people through the agency and through you,” Sengupta, clad in a suit, said yesterday pointing at reporters gathered at the Press club where he held a press conference instead of his party office, usually the regular venue for such interactions.
The former CPI-M Rajya Sabha MP said, “Press Club is a good venue for meeting media persons. Many others also addressed the media here”, Sengupta told reporters when asked whey he opted for this venue instead of the BJP office.
Regarding his shift from the left to the BJP Sengupta said that he felt that the BJP-led NDA government had become a model party for building a modern India of the 21st century. “I joined BJP as I wanted to serve the bigger cause”.
