BJP would hold the key to formation of the government in West Bengal after next year's assembly election, party president Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday.

"I fully believe that BJP will hold the key on who will form the government after the next assembly elections," he said at a citizen's convention.

Stating that people in the state have turned away from the CPI(M) and the Congress, he said the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee was also unreliable.

"Therefore, people are looking for a new alternative. Our party, under the leadership of (state president) Rahul Sinha, will provide that alternative.

He said BJP will strengthen its presence among scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, minorities and professionals like doctors and lawyers.

Gadkari also expressed confidence that BJP would come to power at the Centre after the next Lok Sabha elections.

Describing it as a party with a difference, Gadkari said, unlike the Congress, it was only in the BJP that a grassroots level worker like himself could rise to become the national president.
