Cong appeals to dissidents

kolkata Updated: Apr 11, 2011 15:45 IST

With several Congress dissidents filing nominations as Independents against the Trinamool-Congress alliance for the assembly polls, senior Congress leaders on Sunday appealed to them to refrain from doing so and cautioned that they would be washed out.

“It is high time for all concerned to desist from any attempt that may cause any effect on the alliance in any manner whatsoever,” said a joint statement issued by West spokespersonBengal Pradesh Congress Committee Sukhendu Roy and senior leader Pradip Bhattacharya.

Stating that the state was on the threshold of a new era, the statement said, “Any person or group of persons, who dares to oppose the waves of change would be washed out.”

“I will call upon such partymen to withdraw their nomination. Otherwise, action will be taken against them according to party rules,” AICC general secretary in charge of West Bengal Shakeel Ahmad said.
