'Congress must say if it is with us or Marxists'

Trinamool Congress

In a hard rap to the Congress, the Trinamool Congress on Monday called it "shameless" for not departing from the state ministry even after being asked to leave, and said it has to clearly say whether it is with the Marxists or with the Mamta Banerjee-led party.

"If they want to stay with CPI-M (communist Party of India-Marxist), they can go. We have already said the door is open for them to go out, but still they have not left. They are so shameless that even after being asked to leave, they are still in the ministry,” said Trinamool leader and rural and panchayat development minister Subrata Mukherjee.

Party leader and industries minister Partha Chatterjee said: "They have to clarify their stand properly whether they are with the Marxists or with us."

"What were they doing when for last few years we were fighting for the people on the issue of Nandigram, and Singur," he asked.

In an indication that all is not well within the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA), chief minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Banerjee on Saturday asked partner Congress to walk out of the combine.

The state Congress unit in response to Banerjee's statement stated that they were not bound to follow her orders and would continue in the ministry.
