The Bidhannagar Police on Tuesday manhandled Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh inside Bidhannagar court premises to prevent him from speaking to the media.

The cops were seen pushing the MP and even landing him a kick when he fell to the ground after being pushed. Then the policemen dragged him inside the lift when he tried to talking to the media persons.

Over the past few months policemen were seen various measures to prevent Ghosh, who always lashed out at the chief minister and senior party leaders, from speaking to the meida, but never did they manhandle him in the manner they did on Tuesday.

Ghosh has been behind the bars since November 24, 2013 when he was arrested for his involvement in the Saradha scam that sunk about Rs 2,500 crore of depositor funds.

Earlier policemen would beat the walls of prison vans with lathis to drown the voice of Ghosh when he tried to speak to the reporters who would reach near him when he was produced to the court. Policemen even kept shouting to make Ghosh's voice inaudible.

On Tuesday, too, Ghosh took potshots at the chief minister and sports minister Madan Mitra who is lodged in a plush cabin of state-run SSKM Hospital for months ostensibly for treatment.

During the hearing, Ghosh remarked in the court that SSKM hospital authorities are busy with Madan Mitra and (the dialysis of a) dog. He also alleged that he is not getting an opportunity to be treated in the hospital though he was seriously ill.

“I was never absent at the court during the day of my production. I never staged any drama over the issue of my illness. It is Ms Banerjee (the chief minister) who is doing the acting," said Ghosh in the court.

Ghosh also requested the court to pass an order so that the police do not manhandle him.

Later, when the hearing was over, Ghosh tried to speak to the media while he was taken to the court lock up. When the police tried to prevent him froom speaking to the media, Ghosh reminded the police officers that the magistrate did not object to his plea to speak to the media.

The police refused to listen to him and began pushing him in front of TV cameras. Ghosh fell on the ground and cried for help. The policemen dragged him inside the lift. TV footage also captured a police man swinging his torso to kick the MP as he fell to the ground.

Later Ghosh’s lawyer informed the incident of police high handedness to the judge. The judge called up the police officers of the Bidhannagar North police station and asked them not to manhandle Ghosh in future.
