Train services in the Ballygunj-Budge-Budge section of the Eastern Railway remained disrupted for over four hours on Thursday after a coach of a local train derailed near the Lake Gardens station.
ER sources said that the third coach from the rear of the Majherhat-Namkhana local derailed at 9:52 am when the train was entering the Lake Gardens station.
Train services in the section resumed at around 2:35 pm. There was no casualty or injury, the sources said.
During the period, shuttle services were maintained with seven pairs of trains between Tollygunj and Budge-Budge stations. Five pairs of Sealdah-Budge Budge locals, however, had to be cancelled and two more local trains were short-terminated at intermediate stations, the sources said.
Stating that an enquiry by senior officers had been ordered, they said that the Permanent Way Inspector of the section has been suspended.
