Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has reportedly assembled a large star cast for the Assembly polls in West Bengal.
She has decided to field Ficci secretary general Amit Mitra, Bengali cine stars Debashree Roy and Chiranjit, singer Anup Ghoshal, former West Bengal chief secretary Manish Gupta and several retired IAS and IPS officers as candidates.
“Apart from this, women, minorities, SC-STs and OBCs will get proper representation as well,” said a senior Trinamool Congress leader.
Banerjee has already prepared two lists, including one for 294 seats in case the seat sharing talks with the Congress fail. “Mamata Banerjee

list of candidates,” the leader added.
Amit Mitra is expected to take on state Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta in the Kharda seat while Gupta is likely to contest against Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in Jadavpur
Banerjee has known Mitra for many years and appointed him an advisor to the party after the Lok Sabha elections. Mitra is also part of the expert committee on railways.
Cine stars Chiranjeet and Debashree are expected to contest from Barasat and Raidhighi in North 24 Parganas, respectively. And theatre personality Bratya Basu is expected to take on the powerful state housing minister Gautam Deb in Dumdum.
