A student of Class 11 died and two fellow students were injured after an eve teaser, who was chasing them in a car, rammed into them.

The incident happened on Thursday afternoon at Mahisadal in East Midnapore district about 100 kms from Kolkata.

Madhumita Bag, the student of class 11, died on the spot and Pinki Nayek and Sumita Bag were injured and admitted to Tamluk hospital.

On Wednesday afternoon, the incident happened at Garughata in Mahisadal on NH-41. At that time, the three girls from Nandakumar were going for private tuition.

According to locals, the driver of the vehicle was teasing the girls and chasing them while they were going to take lessons from private tutor. It was not clear whether the eve teaser rammed the vehicle against the girls deliberately or accidentally.

After hitting the girls and injuring them, the speeding vehicle fell into a roadside canal.

Police said that two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident. The cops have also started interrogating the arrested persons. Since locals alleged that the miscreants were teasing the girls, the police was also considering an eve teasing case.

Sources said Dibyendu Das and Subrata Maity, both from Haldia, had been arrested.

They hit the three students when they were driving the vehicle at high speed.

“The girls were trying to go to a safe place. But before they could do that, the vehicle hit them and one of them died on the spot,” said Tapas Kumar Mallick, a local resident.

Police said that they had arrested the two on charges of reckless driving and the miscreants had also been booked under sections relating to attempt to murder. “As the allegation of eve teasing has come from the locals we are also investigating on that. We will also interrogate the injured students. If we find that is a fact we will add the charges on the arrested, “ said Alok Rajoria, superintendent of police in East Midnapore.
