Thugs beat up a pregnant woman and her husband on Monday night near Behrampore NBSTC bus stand when they protested against eve-teasing. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
On Monday Piu Das, a resident of the Khargra-Rammohan Lane area was visiting the Padma police housing complex near the Behrampore station with her husband Suman.
The couple were on their way home on a bicycle around 8.30pm when they were stopped at the NBSTC bus stand by some drunken men, who began to tease Piu. When Suman protested the young men abused and beat him up mercilessly. When his wife tried to protect him, the men noticing Piu was pregnant started kicking her in her stomach.
Piu called her relatives who were in the housing complex just 100 metres away. When locals heard of the incident they rushed to the scene of the crime and proceeded to beat up the men.
Later a police force rushed to the scene and arrested two men for eve-teasing and molestation.
The men have been identified as Babi, resident of Madhupur, and Banti, resident of Bishnupur.
Four others accused managed to run away before cops arrived.
"When we were near the bus stand the rear wheel of the cycle got punctured. So, we walked through the area and as we approached about six men started hurling filthy comments at me. They were drunk," said Piu.
