Exactly when did Rabindranath Tagore write a particular poem, or put into words a particular song? If you are keen to know, read on.

The ongoing Kolkata Book Fair will see the launch of a weblink showcasing a comprehensive timeline of Tagore’s creations in black and white, all through his eighty-year life, archived in a decade-wise format. The launch is slated for February 7.

An initiative of HIDCO and titled ‘Rabisarani’, the site can be accessed through a link from the website of Rabindra Tirtha. “This site provides exhaustive information on Tagore’s works as a wordsmith,” Debashis Sen, chairman of HIDCO, told HT.

“For example, if a song was composed while Tagore was in Shilaidaha, you will get to know the exact date when he composed it. You can also listen to that particular song through another link provided there. We engaged a professional agency for the project. The website is the result of three years of research and hard work by the agency. It is a treasure trove of information about a range of things concerning Tagore’s life and creativity,” he said.

Although written in English, visitors will have the option of reading it in Bengali too. It’s an effort to bring the new generations closer to Tagore. The home page has a frame showing Tagore at different stages of his life — right from a teenage Rabi to the omnipresent image with the trademark, flowing white beard in his twilight years.
