The Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police on Friday arrested Matangini Mahila Samiti member Joyeeta Das for having links with Maoists.

Das, a key figure in the Nandigram land agitation, was arrested from south Kolkata’s Charu Market with incriminating documents. Joyeeta has also been an activist of the United Students Democratic Front (USDF).

She was arrested under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. Joyeeta is the second woman to be slapped UAPA after Debaleena.

The police claim Joyeeta has Maoist links, and she used to organise and control their activities in Kolkata. She had reportedly visited Jangalmahal a number of times and is believed to have attended meetings with top Maoist leaders that have taken place there.

According to the STF, Joyeeta Das is a member of Kolkata City Committee of the CPI (Maoist). She was arrested under sections 120B/121/121A of the Indian Penal Code and sections 18/18B/20/39 of UAPA.

She would be produced in a local court on Saturday.
