Four held for CPI(M) leaders' murder

kolkata Updated: Jan 28, 2009 16:29 IST

Four persons were on Wednesday arrested for allegedly killing two CPI(M) leaders at Dum Dum area in North 24 Parganas on Tuesday night, police said.

"The situation in the area is tense, but under control. Four persons were arrested so far in this connection," IGP (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said.

Unidentified men last night hacked to death two local CPI(M) leaders, zonal committee member Sujit Dasgupta and Sambhu Dasgupta, at Durganagar in the area, police said.

Tension brewed in the area after the news spread and a mob ransacked and set ablaze a few shops, after which police personnel were deployed in the area.

The CPI(M) had called a 12-hour bandh in the area to protest the killing, which affected office bound commuters in the metropolis.
