Four persons were seriously injured in a clash between supporters of the CPI(M) and the Jharkhand Dishom Party (JDP) during a 12-hour bandh called by the latter at Taldanga in Bankura district on Sunday.
The clash broke out when CPI(M) supporters tried to resist JDP activists from enforcing the shutdown call at Panchmura locality in Talbanda.
Armed with bows and arrows, supporters of both the parties clashed with each other as the JDP members raised slogans against the CPI(M) government and alleged police atrocities on tribals, police said.
All the injured belonged to the CPI(M), party sources claimed, while JDP president Salkhan Murmu alleged in a statement that about 70 party activists were forced to take shelter at a house in Taldanga with hundreds of CPI(M)cadres armed with bombs and weapons camping outside.
He also alleged the Marxists were conspiring to set the house on fire.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Vishal Garg said they were looking into the allegations.
The JDP-sponsored bandh paralysed life at Ranibandh, Khantra, Simlapal, Bishnupur, Sarenga and some other parts of Bankura with little vehicular traffic and shops closed, reports said.
