Four members of a family found dead in Kolkata

Four members of a family were on Saturday found dead under mysterious circumstances at Belghoria area in the suburbs of the city, police said.

While a school teacher Asit Bhanja was found dead near a railway track in the area, bodies of his son, daughter and wife were recovered from their house, they said.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Tarun Halder said a maid, working in the house of Bhanja, and a resident of Jatin Das Nagar locality of Belghoria came to the house this morning and found the door locked. Nobody from inside responded to their calls.

She informed neighbours, who immediately informed police, who broke open the locks and found the bodies of the eight-year old son, four-year old daughter and wife of Asit Bhanja lying in the room, the SDPO said.

He said police suspect that they were murdered.

The body of Bhanja was later found in the day lying near the railway tracks near Belghoria railway station, Halder said.

Neighbours claimed that he had run into huge debts recently and was going through a financial crisis.

A probe has been launched and the bodies have been sent for postmortem, the police officer said.
