A 20-year old woman was allegedly raped and murdered in Barasat area of West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on Friday night.
When the victim, a second year BA student, did not return home on Friday evening, her father along with some neighbours organised a search party.
They finally found her next to a pond, partially disrobed.
“We can be sure about rape only after the post mortem,” said Sugoto Sen, superintendent of police, North 24 Parganas.
After her body was discovered, angry locals, who blamed the police for not swinging into action early enough, went berserk.
Finally, at 12.45am on Saturday, the police with the help of the combat force and the RAF controlled the mob and took away the girl’s body for the post mortem.
