Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung asked the Gorkhas and Adivasis in the Dooars to use the July 9 panchayat election as a weapon to drive home the point that parties like the Congress, Trinamool Congress and the CPI (M) are responsible for the backwardness of the two communities.
Addressing a rally in the Dooars where the GJM and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) are jointly contesting, Gurung said voters should teach political parties a lesson as they have not done anything for the communities.
Addressing an impressive crowd at Jaigaon, Gurung said, “The ensuing election is an opportunity to silence those who claim there are no Gorkhas in the Dooars. Cast your votes for the GJM-JMM candidates and make the demand for the inclusion of 396 mouzas of Terai and the Dooars in the GTA stronger.”
Gurung, who is also the chief executive of the GTA, said the fact-finding committee formed by the state government after the GJM rejected the report of Shyamal Sen Committee on mouza inclusion, should submit its report immediately. Though the GJM was demanding 396 mouzas, the Shyamal Sen Committee recommended the inclusion of only five mouzas. Gurung said, “The GJM would launch a movement if the fact finding committee’s report turns out to be negative. We will never go back on our demand.”
