Amika khono khoon, dakati ba kono aparadh karini. Athacha amar aaj ai abastha holo. Kintu jara aaro kathin aparadh korechen tader kichhui holona. (I’ve never committed any murder, dacioty, or any other crime, but I’ve landed in such a situation. No actions have been taken against many people (leaders) who have committed heinous crimes.”

This grievance came from no other than Arabul Islam, Trinamool Congress strongman and former party MLA of Bhangor, on Sunday. HT managed to sneak into the intensive-coronary care unit (ICCU) around 4.15pm on Sunday amid tight security and spoke to him for five minutes while he was sitting on the cot.

While speaking to this correspondent, the 45-year-old leader, in a black-and-white striped shirt and a blue lungi expressed his frustrations, as well as resentments, virtually against his party’s supremo, Mamata Banerjee, the party and the media.

There are many leaders and ministers of the ruling party who are allegedly involved in several criminal cases. When this correspondent asked him to clarify ‘ jara’ (the people involved in serious crimes), he refused to comment, saying, “You understand what I’ve said.”

Bigato tirish bochhar dhoreamir ajneeti korchi. Prathame Congress kortam, tarpore Trinamoole jog diy janma theke. Sei theke ami Didir sange achhi. Kintu tar pariname amakejhulie deoa holo. (I’ve been doing politics for the past 30 years. Initially, I was in the Congress and then I joined the Trinamool nand I’ve been with it since its inception. I’ve always been with Didi, as a result of which I’ve been left in the lurch),” he said.

“I’m the most popular leader in Bhangor. It’s the role of the media and a section of the people who conspired for my arrest,” the Trinamool Congress strongman added.

The condition of Arabul was stable on Sunday, although his blood sugar level had shot up to more than 350. “I still feel a chest pain and have high bloodpressure. Doctors have administered injections today to control the high blood sugar level. They’ve given me a light diet — mainly soup,” he said.
