Intellectuals meet CEC, call for advancing WB Assembly polls

A delegation of intellectuals today met Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi and sought advancing of the Assembly elections in West Bengal.

The 11-member delegation, including painter Suvaprasanna, theatre personality Bratya Basu and former bureaucrat Debabrata Bandopadhyay, submitted a memorandum to the CEC, alleging that the Left Front government was indulging in state-sponsored terrorism.

"We highlighted the spurt in political violence and state-sponsored terrorism in the state and the CEC has assured to look into our memorandum," a delegation member said.
