A man who is suppose to uphold the law, has been breaking it behind the closed doors of his home everyday for the last one year.
The accused, Basudeb Bag, a senior IPS officer from Howrah, not just employed a minor girl as domestic help, but has been beating her up regularly.
And, the deputy inspector general (planning & welfare) of West Bengal Police would have walked free if mob fury did not force nearby Sankrail police to finally lodge a complaint against him on Saturday.
Police have lodged a case against Bag under sections 323 and 325 of the IPC, besides initiating a case under section 14 of the Child Labour Act.
The girl, Janata Mirdha (10), meanwhile, has been kept in safe custody at a children’s home at Howrah’s Bantra.
On Sunday, inspector general (organisation) Suman Bala started an investigation into the case and went to meet Janata at children’s home.
Bala, however, refused to divulge any details.
