Kolkata Police and the CBI posted two officers each outside transport minister Madan Mitra’s cabin at a private nursing home on Friday.
The move comes after the central probe agency wrote to the police asking it to take adequate steps complying with a Calcutta High Court order directing Mitra to remain in house confinement under police surveillance. Mitra is an accused in the multi-crorerupee Saradha chit fund scam.
“We have written to Kolkata Police to take adequate steps complying with the court order directing Mitra to be in house confinement under police surveillance till the disposal of a CBI plea for cancellation of his bail,” an official said.
On Thursday, the HC had directed that Mitra shall not move out of his house unless there was a medical emergency or requirement for investigation purposes by the CBI.
Mitra, 61, was admitted to a private hospital in Alipore on November 2 after he complained of uneasiness and breathlessness.
