Adding to the chorus of opposition against the Trinamool regime, CPI(M) leaders and cadres took out a rally on Tuesday, demanding arrest of chief minister Mamata Banerjee. The rally commenced from near Victoria House in Esplanade and culminated at College Square.
“We want the truth to come out in the Saradha scam and chief minister Mamata Banerjee should be arrested if need be. CBI should summon her for questioning in the case at the earliest,” CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose said before the rally rolled.
“Why hasn’t the CBI summoned Mamata Banerjee for questioning yet? Is the BJP pressuring the agency to go slow in the case?” Bose asked.
The Left Front chairman claimed it was the Trinamool chief who advised Saradha boss Sudipta Sen to escape after the chit fund bubble burst. Addressing supporters near the Victoria House, Bose voiced his displeasure over the CBI not going after transport minister Madan Mitra, who he claimed, exploited the Saradha boss for personal gain.
Earlier, leader of opposition in the Assembly Suryakanta Mishra wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking an appointment to demand a speedy probe into the Saradha scam and Burdwan blast.
