Seventy days after the December 9 fire-and-smoke tragedy that killed 91 patients and employees, a division bench of Calcutta high court granted bail to R S Agarwal, a director of Advanced Medicare and Research Institute (AMRI) on Friday, denying it to four other co-applicants.

The directors were denied bail were RS Goenka, Manish Goenka, Prashant Goenka and Ravi Todi.

Agarwal was arrested on the day of the tragedy itself, but was hospitalized – first at a private hospital and then at a state-run one – as he was ill of multiple ailments.

The directors of AMRI who are now behind bars are RS Goenka, SK Todi, Prashant Goenka, Ravi Todi, Manish Goenka, DN Agarwal and Dr Pronab Dasgupta.

The police had arrested the 92-year old managing director, Dr Mani Chhetri, but he was granted bail after a few days.
