The Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) has decided to blacklist Haldia Bulk Terminals (HBT) for allegedly abandoning its contract with the port authorities, and will claim a compensation of Rs. 1,000 crore for its supposed losses.

HBT has been accused of behaving “illegally, arbitrarily and with malafide intensions”.

“Initially we are blacklisting HBT. But the after-effect would also be on the mother firms (ABG) that have shares in HBT,” Manish Jain, chairman-in-charge of the KoPT, told news persons on Thursday. The management will issue fresh tenders for the two berths and eight at the Haldia docks, where HBT used to operate and exited last week, citing law and order problems.
