The much talked about Congress- Trinamool Congress tie-up for the Lok Sabha elections apparently hit a roadblock on Friday with the Mamata Banerjee-led party demanding that state Congress chief Pranab Mukherjee should stop ‘appeasing' the CPI-M to pave the way for the alliance.
“As a Central minister he can attend programmes but why before the Lok Sabha elections,” Banerjee asked.
Her outburst followed the External Affairs Minister sharing the dais with West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at programmes for projects ahead of the parliamentary poll.
Asked whether Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, might talk to her for an alliance, she retorted, “If they want, talks can be held with a political party.
“But why are central representatives participating in foundation stone-laying programmes for projects with CPI-M leaders ahead of the election? CPI-M has withdrawn support to the Centre.”
The state Congress headed by Mukherjee had last week decided to ally with the Trinamool Congress on condition that it was on ‘honourable´ terms and it snapped all ties with the NDA.
