A man allegedly hacked his younger brother to death at his residence in Shingadanga Village in Nadia on Tuesday morning. The victim’s mother lodged a complaint against her elder son with Murutia police station. The deceased was identified as Uzir Shaikh (35), a daily labourer.

Sources said that Uzir was a hot-tempered person who always misbehaved with everyone. He was involved in an altercation with his elder brother Jamal Shaikh (50) following a family dispute. Suddenly, loosing his temper Uzir took a Hansua, a sharp weapon, and attacked his elder brother Jamal. But somehow Jamal managed to snatch the Hansua from his hand and started to hack Uzir till he fell on the ground in a pool of blood.

Jamal was also badly injured. Both were rushed to Karimpur Rural Hospital where Uzir was declared brought dead. Jamal was soon referred to Shaktinagar District Hospital in Krishnagar after his condition worsened. Hospital sources said that Jamal’s condition is very critical.

Sources said that Uzir and Jamal were stepbrothers and Uzir’s blamed Jamal for his wife leaving him.

“They attacked each other with a sharp weapon at 5 am on Tuesday. We have started the investigation, and the body has been sent for post-mortem,” AK Duttachowdhury, additional superintendent of Nadia said.
